These are custom instructions about you, so they belong where they apply to all your chats, not just one project:

ChatGPT: Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions. Applies to every chat right away.
Claude (web & app): Settings → Profile. Profile instructions are account-wide.
Claude Code: save it as ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md, your user file, loaded in every project. (Claude Code reads CLAUDE.md, not AGENTS.md.)
Cursor: Settings → Rules → User Rules. Windsurf: Global Rules. Both apply across all your projects.

Want it for just one repo instead? Drop it in that project: ./CLAUDE.md, or AGENTS.md in the root for Cursor and Windsurf. Best for your own solo projects; you usually don't want your personal instructions committed into a shared team repo.

Plain markdown, so it works with any model anywhere. If the AI slides back to its old self in a long chat, paste it again.
